Cygnet Swan

One of my favourite swan images.

cygnet swan

This closeup portrait of a cygnet swan from my collection of swan images includes some subtle brown tones.

This unusual composition will convey a sense of calm in any location, and its gentle colouring should blend well with many themes of decor.

‘Digitally Painted’ Images.

All of my images listed in the ‘Art Category’ are ‘Digitally Painted’ or have a digitally painted effect applied to them.

The images when viewed on screen at the Loxly Gallery do not always show the desired effect at the available viewable resolution. In order to give a clearer picture, I am including samples from four of my images here to display the effect at a close up resolution of 100%.

Jack Russell Terrier Creake Abbey Ruins

The digital painting effects are obtained using a mixture several software packages and various image manipulation techniques together with tools such as a graphics tablets and scanners. All finished images are developed from original photographs taken by myself.

Mute Swan

Digital painting effect of a mute swan. Pictured in profile with water droplets on head and neck.
This particular image is from a photograph which was taken at a local wildlife reserve. The swan has just emerged from dipping its head under the water whist searching for food and the droplets of moisture are reflecting in the light. I quite like the way that water is dripping from the end of the swans bill.

An enlarged portion of the image is below to demonstrate the digital painting effect.

A little information of the local area follows:
Winterton-on-sea is an old fishing village on the east coast of England some 8 miles north of the popular holiday resort town of Great Yarmouth.
The dunes skirting the village are a designated nature reserve area and popular with bird watchers and also offers walkers some lovely views.
The Church of Holy Trinity & All Saints, has its origins around the 1500’s and its tower, at 125 feet high is one of the tallest in the county of Norfolk.

If any readers or visitors to this site have been to Winterton-on-sea and would like to comment or suggest other images from the area that they would like to see, then your views are most welcome.

Hello from Colin

Hello everybody, and welcome. My name is Colin Bailey and it gives me great pleasure to have the opportunity to present my images here at Loxly Gallery.

Most of my images are of the photographic variety, however you may find a few which have been “digitally enhanced” using various computer software and aided by my trusty graphics tablet.

When the mood takes me, or the weather is unfavourable for photography, you may find me producing computer generated images, a couple of which are represented here at the Loxly Gallery.

By far the largest proportion of my photography however, is of the landscape genre, closely followed by my fascination for the drama provided by historical buildings and locations such as churches and castles. I have recently extended my interest to include subjects representing the colour and history of the English canal system and I hope to have many more images appearing here over time covering all genres.

There is often a story which surrounds the making of a particular image and I hope to present here, not just the images themselves, but where there is a story to be told, I will try to include that also.

So please do bookmark this site and be sure to check back regularly for updates and new images.

Now, since Loxly Gallery is a US based site and I am a UK based photographer I am keen to learn of the genre of images from the UK that are popular with you Americans. I would be most pleased if you would educate me to your tastes in images from England, Wales, and Scotland so that I may provide Loxly Gallery with appropriate images for your enjoyment and satisfaction. Please use the facility here to leave a comment with your thoughts and ideas.

Oh yes, for the more curious amongst you, often I am asked, “are you related to David Bailey, famous photographer and film maker?” Well, the answer to that sadly, is no. (Not that I’m aware of anyhow)

Thank you,
Colin.
